In honour of National Science Day on 28 February 2023, Grade 8 students from National Public School, Indiranagar travelled to Bangalore to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) office. The purpose of the visit was to provide the students a better understanding of how the DRDO operates and the technologies that they have created for the Indian Armed Forces.

The students were given a quick lecture on the brief history of DRDO and its many divisions by Ms. V Uma, who is the Group Head for Technical Coordination Group, DEBEL at DRDO. It was an insightful and engrossing lecture and students were all highly fascinated.

The next speaker was Dr. Daniel J with training in both engineering and medicine. He discussed the value of creating technology for the armed forces as well as his experience working with DRDO. Students formed a special connection with Dr. Daniel as he discussed his path from being a student of National Public School, Indiranagar to working as a scientist for the DRDO. A proud moment for the school!

After the interactive session, the students were split up into groups and taken to the exposition room, where they were able to see a variety of tools and equipment that the DRDO had created specifically for the armed forces. They had a wonderful experience seeing an exoskeleton in operation for missions.

This educational excursion was a huge success and provided the students with many useful lessons. They got a glimpse into the realm of R&D and learned how crucial it is to create technologies for the armed forces.
