The month of September saw National Public School, Indiranagar, come alive with the colours, sounds, and spirit of Onam. Students from all sections came together to celebrate this harvest festival, creating an atmosphere filled with joy, warmth, and togetherness.
The Montessori and Kindergarten children added a special charm to the celebrations as they arrived dressed in bright ethnic attire, many in the traditional cream and gold. Through stories, conversations, and hands-on activities, they were gently introduced to the rich culture of Kerala. Learning about the Onam Sadhya, traditional boat races, and folk dances became a joyful experience, especially as they worked together to create beautiful pookalams using flowers brought from home. The excitement was made even sweeter with traditional treats such as banana chips and sharkara upperi.
Students from Grades 1 to 12 celebrated the festival with a vibrant cultural programme. A colourful pookalam at the reception welcomed everyone, while confident Grade 5 comperes kept the programme flowing smoothly. Lively dance performances, a melodious medley of Onam songs, and an engaging quiz kept the audience involved. A graceful dance performance by the teachers was a delightful highlight and drew warm applause.
The celebrations came to a happy close, leaving everyone with a deeper appreciation of the values of harmony, gratitude, and unity that Onam represents.
